CABG / Open Heart :
CABG is called Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting. It is one type of open heart surgery that is used to create a new path of blood flow in order to treat the blocked blood vessels. CABG is performed in emergency conditions such as heart attack. It is also done in the case of coronary artery diseases. The conditions that come under coronary artery diseases are angina pectoris and myocardial ischemia. In the procedure of CABG, healthy blood vessels are taken from veins of the legs or arteries in the chest to be used as grafts to create a new path to allow the flow of blood and to bypass the blocked arteries. It is indicated when an individual experiences severe chest pain, palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, indigestion, swelling of hands and legs, and abnormal heartbeat. Some tests are performed before the start of the surgery such as ECG, echocardiogram, nuclear cardiac stress tests, cardiac catheterization, exercise stress test, X-ray angiography, CT scan, complete blood count, urine tests and coronary calcium scan.
