Amputation :
Amputation is the surgical removal of partial or complete removal of extremities or limbs, such as legs, arms, fingers, or hands, when there is any infection or injury. The common types of amputation include hand amputation, arm amputation, leg amputation, finger amputation, toe amputation, and foot amputation. There will be other conditions that can cause amputation, such as diabetes causing nerve damage, peripheral artery disease, foot ulcers, toe ulcers, gangrene, infections to bones and joints, tumors, frostbite leading to tissue death, and injuries such as crushing or burn injuries. Through the surgical procedure, the damaged parts are removed and replaced with a prosthesis. Post the amputation surgery, rehabilitation is done with physiotherapy, psychotherapy, occupational therapy, and fitting of a prosthesis after the area is healed. The benefits of amputation are that it is a life-saving procedure that can control the further spread of infection and relieve chronic pain.
