Growth Problems :
Growth problems in children refer to the condition where the child falls below or above the average growth range for the child's age, sex, family history, and racial background. Growth problems are majorly caused by hormonal imbalances, nutritional changes, and the genetic makeup of the child. Genetic disorders like Turner syndrome, down syndrome, and achondroplasia are the major conditions that cause delayed growth. Growth disorders can be characterized by delayed or early development of secondary sexual characters, short stature or tall stature, slower or faster learning skills, mental disturbances, and self esteem issues. Growth disorders can be diagnosed through blood tests, X-rays, physical examination by a health care professional, and evaluation of the pituitary gland, which produces growth hormones through a CT scan or MRI. Treatment plans include hormonal therapy, medical management, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other interventions. Early consultation and regular follow up with the Endocrinologist is recommended for better treatment plans to avoid complications like increased mortality and neurological issues.
