Deviated Nasal Septum :
Deviated nasal septum is a condition which is characterized by asymmetric positioning of the cartilage and bone covering the nasal septum, which divides the nasal cavity into two nostrils. Some people have this condition since birth, some may acquire as development progresses or during a physical injury or traumatic accidents. A severely deviated nasal septum may cause difficulty in breathing, frequent nasal congestion, headaches, stridor, epistaxis, snoring, sleep apnea and chronic sinus issues. It is thoroughly examined by ENT specialist followed by CT scan to know extent of the deviation of nasal septum. It can be managed in initial cases with medications like antihistamines, nasal decongestants and sprays. It is can also repaired surgically with less invasive procedure like septoplasty. This procedure helps to approximate the nasal septum to the center from deviation, allowing easy follow of air thus enhancing proper breathing and lessen the chance for snoring and sleep apnea.
