Dementia is characterized by symptoms, which may be disordered thought process, leading to a loss of concentration, confusion, or change in the mood or behavior, and even an inability to undertake day to day activities. Progressive loss of speech, recognition of known persons, and personal care develop with dementia.
Dementia is an illness for which there is no remedy, but the symptoms are treated by keeping quality of life a priority. The treatments include the use of cholinesterase inhibitors, cognitive stimulation, lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, regular exercises, and mental activities slowing down the progress.
