D and C :
Dilation and curettage is a procedure that is informally called "D and C." It involves extracting tissues from the inside of the womb of a female body. A gynaecologist can perform this procedure. Before the procedure begins, the female is given anaesthesia so they do not feel pain. However, the patient may experience some pressure in their pelvis during the procedure.
The procedure begins with the doctor providing some medications that dilate the cervix, which is the opening of the womb. Next, the gynaecologist inserts an instrument called a curette into the vagina. The doctor uses the curette to scrape the wall of the womb and extract tissues from within. The tissues may be examined in a lab to provide the female with a diagnosis.
