Prostrate Surgery :
Prostate surgery, also known as prostatectomy, is a surgical procedure that aims at the removal of the prostate gland, a part of the male reproductive system. Prostate surgery is performed in various ways, either as an open surgery, laparoscopic surgery or a robotic assisted surgery. Prostate surgery is recommended to treat prostate cancer, enlarged prostate, cancers of the pelvis, recurrent urinary tract infections due to an enlarged prostate gland, benign prostatic hyperplasia and bladder outlet obstruction. Prostate surgery usually takes around 2 hours to perform and is done under general anesthesia. The complications of prostate surgery include urinary incontinence, bleeding, hematoma formation, erectile dysfunction, healing problems, penile atrophy, dry orgasm and depression. After prostate surgery, post-operative care involves avoiding heavy lifting, resuming normal activities gradually within the next four to six weeks after surgery and avoiding strenuous exercises or other physical activities.
