Prostatectomy :
The prostate is a gland in the male body that is present under the bladder. It surrounds the urethra, which is the tube that helps urine and semen exit the body. The function of the prostate is to combine fluid into the sperm and push it out of the body. When the prostate becomes unusual in shape and obstructs the flow of urine, or if it develops cancer, then a procedure called prostatectomy is performed. Prostatectomy involves removing the prostate gland from the body either fully or partially.
This procedure is usually performed by a urologist. The urologist may remove the prostate by making a large hole in the abdomen. Depending on the patient's condition, the urologist may also be able to perform the procedure via a few small cuts using a surgical robot.
