BPH :
BPH is short for benign prostatic hyperplasia. It is a condition in which the prostate grows larger than usual. The prostate is a gland present under the bladder of the male body. It is also connected to the urethra, which is the tube via which urine leaves the body. So, when BPH occurs, it can obstruct or block the flow of urine out of the body.
The symptoms of this condition include difficulty in urination, urine leakage, foul-smelling urine, changes in urine colour and pain during urination. The diagnosis of this condition involves a physical exam and the doctor will also perform a digital rectal exam. During the rectal exam, the doctor will insert a gloved finger into the rectum to check the condition of the prostate. Other tests, such as a cystoscopy, may also be required. The treatment of BPH may involve medications or procedures such as a urethral lift or prostate resection.
