Circumcision :
Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure which involves removing the foreskin that covers the head of the penis. Most circumcisions are performed within a week of male baby's birth. However, older children and adults can also get circumcised. The procedure involves rubbing numbing cream on the penis or injecting anaesthesia. Then, the foreskin is separated from head of the penis before it is removed using a scalpel. If the procedure is performed on a baby, then stitches are not required. However, in older children and adults, the doctor may use dissolvable stitches. The doctor may even cauterize the area using an electric current to stop the bleeding and minimize scarring. The benefits of circumcision include reduced risk of urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted infections, penile cancer and cervical cancer for female sexual partners.
