Epididymitis :
Epididymitis is a problem that affects the genitals in males. It involves the swelling up of the epididymis, which is a coiled tube attached to the testis. The function of the epididymis is to carry the sperm into the sperm duct, which then carries it to the urethra to be ejected from the body. The epididymis also stores a small amount of sperm.
Epididymitis usually occurs due to an infection or injury. But it can also result from a blockage in the urethra or as a reaction to certain medications. The condition causes symptoms like fever, swollen testicles, pain in the scrotum, pain during urination and blood in the semen. The diagnosis of epididymitis requires tests such as blood tests, urinalysis, ultrasound and bacteria swab test. The treatment of this condition depends on the underlying cause, but it usually involves medications.
