ACL Repair :
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament is an important ligament that keeps the knee joint stable. However, if the knee is forced beyond its normal range, then the ACL can tear partly or completely. ACL tears are common in athletes since they are more prone to twisting or pivoting the knee beyond normal. A damaged ACL can be fixed with an ACL repair surgery. The ACL repair surgery involves creating a new ACL by taking tissues from other parts of the patient's body such as the hamstrings or the quadriceps. The tissues needed to make a new ACL may also be taken from a human organ donor. When the new ACL is ready, tiny cuts are made in the knee and the ACL is repaired using small instruments. Most patients return home on the same day of the procedure. However, it can take a few months for patients to regain full strength in the knee.
