Vesicovaginal Fistula :
Vesicovaginal fistula is a common fistula that is described as an opening between the vaginal wall and the urinary bladder. It is also called a bladder fistula. This vesicovaginal fistula leads to leakage of urine into the vagina, causing discomfort and other issues. The other possible symptoms seen in vesicovaginal fistula are frequent urinary infections, swelling and pain in the vagina, smelly vaginal discharge, infections in the vagina, and pain during sexual intercourse. The causes of vesicovaginal fistula can be injuries during childbirth, complications post surgery such as hysterectomy, Crohn's disease, diverticulitis, some cancers in pelvic organs, etc. The investigation tests to diagnose vesicovaginal fistula are an X-ray of the pelvis, contrast dye CT scan, and cystoscopy. The treatment option for vesicovaginal fistula is to close the opening through the surgical treatment. In this treatment, a catheter is placed in the vagina, which helps to drain the urinary bladder.
