Paralysis :
Paralysis of muscles in the body is most often caused by damage to the nervous system. It may be either temporary or permanent, but is typically due to spinal cord injuries, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, or diseases such as multiple sclerosis or polio. Any part of the body can be affected by paralysis and its seriousness usually depends on location and extent of the damage. Symptoms include paralysis of the body parts, stiffness in muscles, sometimes numbness or paralysis and a person may not feel anything. Paralysis due to reasons could also affect bodily functions such as breathing, speaking, or swallowing.
Management then focuses on symptom control and enhancing the quality of life. Physical therapy helps in maintaining muscle tone and in being mobilized. There is also easy maintenance of daily occupation through occupational therapy. At times, the people may require different assistive devices such as a wheel chair or even bracing of some of the patients. Medications and surgery may also be applied in order to take care of the bottom problem and prevent complications. Continuous rehabilitation and support are very much required for recovery.
