Obesity :
Obesity is the leading cause of slow paced mortality rates. It is measured by Body Mass Index (BMI), which indicates obesity if the value is 30 or above. Obesity complicates the underlying metabolic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. It has direct effects on several medical conditions like gout, arthritis and sleep apnea. Life style habits like poor eating habits/excessive consumption, lack of daily physical activities, certain medications, unhealthy consumption of alcohol and uncontrollable stress/anxiety.Moderate obesity can be managed with life style changes, and medications like appetite suppressants with GLP-1 drugs. If the BMI is above 40, it is known as morbid obesity which requires bariatric surgery using several approaches. Routine health checkups are highly recommended to monitor the cholesterol and A1c levels.
