Menorrhagia :
It refers to abnormal heaviest or prolonged bleeding during menstruation. That is, the sanitary pad or tampon becomes saturated for more than several hours successively, or it lasts for more than seven days. The most common causes are hormonal imbalances, uterine fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, and thyroid disorders and bleeding disorders. Also included in this category are significant cramping, as well as fatigue, and anemia due to blood loss. Depending upon the causes, treatment would be different. Lifestyle modifications are a common initial therapy, though drug therapy could include hormonal or anti-inflammatory agents and also surgical options in some cases such as endometrial ablation or hysterectomy. Treatment of menorrhagia is required to provide improvement in quality of life and prevent complications such as anemia.
