Endometriosis :
A chronic gynecologic disease, endometriosis is characterized by the presence of tissue outside the uterus similar to the uterine lining its corresponding inflammation, and scarring. The cause of endometriosis has not yet been ascertained but may include inherited factors, hormonal, and environmental exposure. Common complaints include pain in the lower abdomen and pelvis, heavy or irregular menstrual flow, infertility, chronic fatigue. The classical and most common presentation of this illness is seen on imaging tests such as ultrasound, MRI, and laparoscopy. Treatment varies from simple hormone therapies to relieve symptoms to relatively aggressive surgical interventions like removal of endometrial lesions laparoscopically which is minimally invasive. The ultimate treatment involves hysterectomy in severe cases. A few patients are advised life style modifications , such as diet therapy, with varied results depending on the patient.
