EEG :
EEG also known as electroencephalography is a non-invasive neurodiagnostic test that measures the electrical activity of the brain. It involves placing electrodes on the scalp to record the brain's electrical impulses.EEG is a non-invasive,painless and relatively low-cost procedure that provides significant and important information for diagnosing and managing various neurological conditions. It provides information on the brain wave activity ie., alpha, beta, delta, theta waves, brain function and activity, seizure activity, encephalitis or meningitis, brain death, coma or unconsciousness, brain tumors and lesions etc., EEG is ordered by a neurologist if they suspect epilepsy and seizures, sleep disorders and encephalopathy , to monitor brain activity in comatose patients, detecting brain death, locate areas of the brain responsible for seizures or tumors etc,. EEG can be of different type like sleep EEG, routine EEG, video EEG, ambulatory EEG, EEG with imaging techniques like MRI and CT.
