The causes are variable involving factors such as allergens, irritants and inheritance that predisposes a person to sensitivity on the skin. The general forms of dermatitis are contact dermatitis, due to exposure of allergens or irritants on soaps, chemicals, plants, among others. Atopic dermatitis is genetic and environmental exposure, and seborrhoeic, mostly on oily portions of the body. Normal symptoms include red, itchy skin, that may swell, blister, or become scaly. In most cases, this leads the affected area to become dry and crack, therefore causing pain. Occasionally, the affected skin may ooze or crust over. The treatment of dermatitis is symptomatic relief and the avoidance of irritants to the skin. Mild cases would have an appropriate response if proper topical creams and oral medications are used to relax the irritation or itching.
