Candidiasis :
Candidiasis is also known as thrush in layman terminology. It is a condition caused by fungal infection by Candida species. It can occur in various locations such as oral candidiasis, vaginal candidiasis, cutaneous and invasive candidiasis. Candidiasis is predominantly seen in patients with immunocompromised conditions, severe hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy or menstrual changes, uncontrollable diabetes, poor oral or genital hygiene. It can clinically manifest as white streaky patches across mucus membranes of the oral cavity with erythema, white discharge with burning and itchy vagina, cracking of the skin, fever or chills. A thorough clinical and physical examination is mandatory to rule the intensity and extent of spread of Candidiasis. Some other diagnostic aids such as culture tests, microscopic examination of samples, and radiographic imaging for invasive candidiasis can be used.
