Anemia in Pregnancy :
Anemia during pregnancy occurs when there are not enough red blood cells to carry oxygen throughout the body. Red blood cells contain a protein called hemoglobin, which holds oxygen and helps the red blood cells to carry oxygen from the lungs to the body. Types of anemia affecting pregnant women are iron deficiency anemia, folate deficiency anemia, and vitamin B12 deficiency anemia. People with multiple pregnancies, not consuming enough iron, having back to back pregnancies with minimal time between, heavy menstrual flow before pregnancy and vomiting due to morning sickness. It is usually caused due to sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, donating blood, heavy menstrual flow, ulcers and polyps. Symptoms of anemia during pregnancy are fatigue, cold, shortness of breath, dizziness, fast heartbeat, headache, pale, dry and bruised skin, sore tongue and unintended movement in the lower leg.
