Drug Allergy Specialist :
A medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and management of drug allergies to known allergens is called drug allergy Specialist. They treat a drug allergy wherein the body's immune system reacts wrongly to a specific medicine, causing symptoms such as rashes, itching, swelling, problems with breathing, or in its worst case, anaphylaxis. Some of the drugs that have a high tendency toward their allergies include penicillin, pain relievers, and some vaccines. A specialist would go very deep in assessing, considering the history of the patient's disease and from test like skin tests or blood tests to clearly ascertained which drug is responsible for the patient's allergy.
Once the drug is isolated, the patient will be given the allowance to avoid the particular drug from which he would have been allergic, and other safer alternatives would also be prescribed by the doctor. At such times, if allergic reactions are posed by those drugs yet they are needed, the doctor may employ desensitization therapy whereby these drugs are administered in such low doses that tolerance of those drugs can slowly be developed over time. However, in case such an allergy develops early and is treated promptly, then severe allergic reactions are avoided.
