Vulvar cancer :
Vulvar cancer is a rare cancer which can be defined as occurring on the external female genitalia. This particular cancer affects the vulva which encompasses the labia, clitoris, and vaginal opening. The cause of cancer cannot always be pointed out but some of the risk factors associated are infection by human papillomavirus, smoking, past history of vulvar lesions and by age most cases in older women. There are others that include unusual lumps or growths, itchiness and burning sensation, change in skin colour and bleeding not being menstrual. A diagnosis may involve a physical examination with the aid of a biopsy procedure and imaging tests. Treatment depending on the stage of cancer will vary to either surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. Early detection is highly recommended to ensure better results. Women suffering from such persistent symptoms are advised to observe these symptoms and present them to their healthcare provider for the timely evaluation and management process.
