Varicose Veins :
Varicose veins are enlarged, knotted veins mostly found on the lower extremities of the legs and sometimes feet. They develop as a result of the failure or damage of some valves in the veins after which blood is sucked and cannot flow smoothly. The causes are mainly standing for prolonged periods, pregnancy, obesity, and heredity. Frequent symptoms include bulging noticeable veins, pains and aching in the legs, swelling and discomfort mainly after a long period of standing. Sometimes varicose veins may bring about ulcers or blood clots. The doctor could check the flow of blood by conducting a physical examination supplemented by an ultrasound examination if required. Treatment for varicose veins starts from lifestyle modifications, including exercise and compression stockings, up to interventional procedures conducted in the medical field, such as sclerotherapy or laser treatment for closing or removal of damaged veins.
