Vaginismus :
Vaginismus is a condition where muscles of the vagina spasm when something like a penis or a tampon enters it. Factors that influence vaginismus include anxiety disorders, vaginal tears, fear of sex, negative feelings of sex, past sexual abuse, and trauma. Symptoms include unable to have sex or insert a finger or tampon, loss of sexual desire, painful intercourse, and discomfort during vaginal penetration. Conditions similar to vaginismus are vaginal atrophy and vulvar vestibulitis. Types include primary vaginismus and secondary vaginismus or acquired vaginismus. Diagnosis can be made by reviewing the symptoms, medical history, sexual history, and pelvic examination. It can be managed by topical therapy, pelvic floor therapy, vaginal dilator therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and sex therapy. Vaginismus may affect sex life and relationships with partner, and it may lead to anxiety and affect mental health.
