Undescended testis :
An undescended testis is the condition where a testicle or testicles have not dropped into the scrotum before birth. It is extremely common in premature babies and can correct itself in early infancy if not already corrected. However if it exceeds the age of six months the testicle must be treated medically. In the majority of cases, its cause cannot be ascertained. It is alleged to be related to hormonal or genetic causes. The symptoms are usually diagnosed on physical examination. Hormone or surgical management, orchiopexy, locating the testicle in the scrotum is undertaken to treat this condition. Early intervention is considered so as to prevent future fertility problems and to lower the risk of developing testicular cancer later.
