Trigger Finger :
Trigger finger is a common problem where the finger gets stuck in a bent position and makes it difficult to move. It is caused by irritation or swelling of the tendon sheath in the affected finger and is most commonly seen in women. Symptoms include finger stiffness in the morning, a clicking sensation when the finger moves, a bump in the palm, pain, tenderness, and swelling. Risk factors include older age, jobs like farming, gardening, industrial work with tools, instrument playing, sports like tennis, pickleball, and racquetball, and health conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, diabetes, amyloidosis, and thyroid disease. Diagnosis is made by physical examination, ultrasound, and X-rays. Treatments include rest from work, splinting, stretching exercises, and anti-inflammatory medication.
