Thrombophlebitis is the inflammation of a vein due to a blood clot, often occurring in the legs but sometimes happening in other body parts. Some of the symptoms which include the inflamed vein are redness, swelling, pain, and warmth. The clot obstructs the blood flow and discomfort can occur along with complications if left untreated. Superficial thrombophlebitis refers to veins just beneath the skin and is usually less serious.
