Sunken eyes are also known as enophthalmos. Sunken eyes can be congenital or acquired. The causes of sunken eyes can be various reasons, such as changes in the orbit size of the eye socket due to fractures of bones around the eyes, changes in the size of the eye, and changes in the contents of the eye socket. The symptoms that are observed when there are sunken eyes are focusing difficulty, sagging of upper eyelids, double vision, dryness of eyes, deep groove in the eyelid, and asymmetrical facial features. Sunken eyes of enophthalmos can be diagnosed with eye examination, CT scan, exophthalmometry, MRI scan, etc. Treatment for sunken eyes is based on the underlying cause and treated with medications and surgical treatment. There are some complications that are associated with sunken eyes, such as loss of symmetry of the face, worsening of symptoms, double vision, loss of eye movement, and loss of vision.
