Sleep Apnea :
Sleep apnea is a problem with breathing during sleep. This sleep apnea will occur due to the blockage of the airway. There will be three types of sleep apnea: mixed or complex sleep apnea, obstructive sleep apnea, and central sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is caused by a problem in the brain's regulation of breathing during sleep. The symptoms that are observed in sleep apnea include breathing pauses during sleep, waking up frequently during the night, snoring, waking up due to shortness of breath, fatigue, daytime sleepiness, night sweats, unusual breathing patterns, headaches, sexual dysfunction, and mood changes. The diagnosis of sleep apnea will be done through diagnostic tests such as home sleep apnea testing and a polysomnogram. The treatment of sleep apnea will be done through a breathing device known as a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, a change of sleeping position, wearing an appliance to keep the airway open, a neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) device for preventing the tongue and upper airway muscles from blocking the airway while sleeping, and surgery.
