Photodermatitis :
Photodermatitis is skin issue that arises as a reaction of skin in response to conditions like natural sunlight, UV radiation, eczematous eruptions, etc. The causative factors of photodermatitis include phototoxic reactions to diseases like lupus erythematosus, genetic mutations and eczema. The presenting complains of photodermatitis include skin eruptions on hands, arms, back or neck, lesion on skin, which causes pain, swelling and itchy bumps on the skin, side of neck and chest region. The complications of photodermatitis are hyper pigmentation, premature aging and skin cancer. To diagnose photodermatitis, investigations like photo patch testing and photo tests are ordered. The treatment methods for the management of photodermatitis includes avoiding exposure to sunlight and avoiding contact with allergens, using topical steroids and topical creams, and taking medications. The preventive measures to be taken for photodermatitis are covering the skin with clothing in sunlight, avoiding sunlight and applying sunscreen lotion over the skin while going into sunlight.
