Pelvic Inflammatory Disease :
Pelvic inflammatory disease is an infectious disease that damages the female reproductive tract (uterus, ovaries, or fallopian tubes). Pelvic inflammatory disease is caused by infections from untreated sexually transmitted infections and bacteria that spread from the vagina to the reproductive organs. The symptoms of pelvic inflammatory disease include pain during sex, pain or tenderness in the stomach or lower abdomen, abnormal vaginal discharge, usually yellow or green with an unusual odor, burning sensation while urinating, nausea and vomiting, chills or fever, and having spotting or irregular periods or cramping throughout the month. To diagnose pelvic inflammatory disease, several investigations such as blood tests, urine tests, ultrasound, testing for STIs, endometrial biopsy, and laparoscopy are conducted. The management of pelvic inflammatory disease is done using various options, such as IV medications and antibiotics. If left untreated, pelvic inflammatory disease may cause complications like ectopic pregnancy, tubo- ovarian abscess (TOA), infertility, and chronic pelvic pain.
