Nose Injury :
An injury to the nose is the occurrence of trauma, in terms of pain, swelling, bruising, or bleeding that have been inflicted as the result of accident-related cases, falls, sport injuries, and physical fights, among others. This is based on its protrusion from the face and its thin bone and cartilage framework that makes the nose quite susceptible to damage.
It manifests with severe pain, swelling, and bruising on the nose and eye area, bleeding, at times, having difficulty in breathing due to blockage or distortion of airflow. More serious forms include fracture wherein the nose will then be crooked or flattened. Their treatment will depend on the extent of the damage. Minor issues are treated with the application of ice, the head is elevated, and pain relievers are taken to reduce the swelling and pain. Broken nose or severe damage to the nose will require alignment or surgery to allow healing. Seek evaluation by an ENT specialist to exclude other complications like septal hematoma. Do not dismiss any form of nasal injury and report it to the ENT consultant immediately. Other interventions, such as septoplasty, might be indicated in specific situations.
