NCS :
NCS is an abbreviated form of Nerve Conduction Study. NCS is the most routinely used neurological diagnostic tests. NCS is the assessment of nerve damage by recording the degree of electrical current passing through the peripheral nerves prior to reaching the muscles. It is conducted in patients with neurological complaints like tingling or numbness of the lower and upper limbs. It is used to rule out or diagnose peripheral neuropathy caused by diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme's disease, alcohol over use, or nerve injury and nerve compression disorders like carpal tunnel syndrome or sciatica. NCS is performed by a qualified health care provider with the duration of 20 to 60 minutes. It is typically followed by electromyography (EMG) test.
