A lump in the neck forms due to a wide range of conditions but is mostly diagnosed as enlarged lymph nodes. The common underlying causes of neck lumps are ear infections, sinus infections, tonsillitis, strep throat, dental infections, and bacterial infections. It can also be due to thyroid issues, cysts, infections, and cancer. It also occurs due to infections like scratch disease, toxoplasmosis, actinomycosis, and systemic infections like mononucleosis, mumps, HIV, and tuberculosis. Cancers like lymphoma, lipoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma can also cause a lump in the neck. The other factors for a lump in the neck are epidermoid cysts and goiter.
