Lumbar Disc herniation :
Lumbar disc herniation is also known as a slipped or ruptured disc. Symptoms include numbness and weakness in parts of the legs and buttocks due to compression of nerves. It normally occurs in old age people as there might be some physiological and anatomical changes which occur over the age. Sometimes it results when a heavy material is being lifted with a sudden change or twist injuries.Symptoms are stabbing shooting pain within the lower back and accompanied by pain within one of the lower limbs, paresthesia or weakness in parts. Diagnoses is based on history supported by physical examinations and image studies such as MRI or CT scans.Treatment depends upon the severity of the disease, which may include rest or pain relieving drugs, sometimes orthopedician might also suggest physiotherapy to increase flexibility in order to decrease the pressure exerted on the involved nerve. Advanced cases may be advised a surgery, if needed.
