Lipoma :

Lipoma is a movable and palpable non-cancerous growth of the adipose (fatty) tissue underneath the skin. It is generally a painless lump with a slow and gradual rate of progression. Lipomas are not associated with other critical symptoms. Genetics, obesity and older age groups have significantly higher risk of developing lipomas. They are clinically under observation and are frequently monitored for changes in shape or size, for signs of infections and metastasis. A steroid injection into lipoma may help in shrinking the tissue. Surgical excision and liposuction are recommended for necessary management. If the lipoma becomes tender or painful to touch, or shows rapid growth with associated bleeding, ulcerations or infectious signs then consider evaluation to obtain final diagnosis. Regular check-ups with dermatologists or self examinations are deemed essential for early diagnosis and prevention.
