Impetigo :
Impetigo is a skin disease characterized by formation of sores and blisters around nose and mouth and primarily affects children. Impetigo is categorized into several types such as non bullous impetigo, bullous impetigo and ecthyma. The presenting complains of impetigo include blisters that are pus filled and burst easily, rashes which spread and cause red and raw skin, swollen lymph nodes near the infected area and skin lesions on the child's lips, arms, nose, ears and legs. Certain types of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Group A streptococcus are the primary factors responsible for causing impetigo. These bacteria enter the body of a child through a rash, cut, scrape or an insect bite. After infections like scabies, head lice, eczema and tattoo infections, impetigo is diagnosed. The management of impetigo involves prescribing medications like cephalosporins, clindamycin and sulfamethoxazole and topical ointments.
