Imperforate Anus :
Imperforate anus is a defect that occurs at birth where the baby cannot pass stool in a normal way due to undeveloped anus. It occurs during the fifth to seventh weeks of pregnancy. Signs of imperforate anus include no anal opening, anal opening near the vagina or at the wrong place, no stool in the first 24 to 48 hours of life, stool passing from the urethra, vagina, scrotum, and base of the penis, swollen abdomen, abnormal connection between baby's rectum and urinary tract. Imperforate anus is associated with conditions like kidney and urinary tract defects, spine abnormalities, tracheal defects, esophageal defects, defects of arms and legs, down syndrome, and congenital heart defects. Diagnosis is made by X-rays, spinal ultrasound, echocardiogram, and MRI.
