Hypospadias :
Hypospadias is a condition that affects the penis in male children. In this condition, the tip of the penis does not develop as expected. The condition involves a deformed development of the skin on the tip of the penis and the tip of the penis itself. A child affected with hypospadias will not have the urethral opening where it normally is. The opening may be present anywhere along the length of the penis. In some cases, the opening may be present on or below the scrotum.
The condition causes symptoms like difficulty in urinating, an undescended testis, an underdeveloped foreskin and a downward curving of the penis. Hypospadias is usually diagnosed during a routine examination after the birth of a child. It usually requires only a physical examination, but other tests may also be performed. The treatment of hypospadias involves surgery to reconstruct the penis and the urethra. The surgery can be performed when the child is between 6 and 12 months old.
