Heart Enlargement :
Heart enlargement or cardiomegaly is a medical condition in which the heart muscle becomes thickened and the chambers enlarged due to underlying conditions. Cardiomegaly or enlargemengt of the heart can occur due to various conditions like high blood pressure, heart valve problems, cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease), heart failure, coronary artery disease, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart defects, infections and substance abuse like alcohol, cocaine etc.Signs and symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in legs, ankles and feet, dizziness, pale or blue tinged skin etc,. Management is by identifying the underlying cause and treating it which may include lifestyle changes like losing weight, smoking cessation, regular exercise, medications and surgical procedures if necessary.
