Glioblastoma :
Glioblastoma is an aggressive form of brain cancer that starts in the tissue of the brain. It is the most common malignant brain tumor found in adults. The cause for glioblastoma is unknown, but it may originate from genetic mutation. Symptoms of glioblastoma include headaches, nausea, seizures, confusion, memory loss, and personality changes. Diagnosis of this disease is carried out by neurological examination, basic blood investigations, imaging tests like MRI or CT scans, and in some cases, a biopsy is done to determine the type of tumor. Glioblastoma is a cancer which can even destroy adjacent brain tissue. Recommended treatment by a neurologist or a neurosurgeon includes surgery to remove most of the tumor, followed by radiation and chemotherapy to slow the growth of the tumor. Some of the chemotherapy drugs include such as temozolomide for better recovery. Advanced treatment options such as targeted therapies or clinical trials can also be advised. Though glioblastoma rarely may be curable, treatments are aimed at improving quality of life and extending life of the patient as much as possible.
