Frozen shoulder :

Frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, is inflammation of the capsule of the shoulder joint that causes stiffness and pain of the shoulder joint with a decreased range of motion. It generally develops gradually but sometimes occurs without any apparent cause .The reason frozen shoulder might develop is obscure although it might arise after injury or surgery or numerous other more or less prolonged periods of immobility. Various medical conditions and diseases, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, and cardiovascular diseases, may also increase the risk.

Symptoms would include nagging pain, especially if the patient moves around, stiffness is exacerbated and limits shoulder movement. People cannot easily reach overhead, dress, or lift objects. Often based on clinical examination and history, supportive imaging studies including X-rays or MRI to exclude other pathologies. Treatment may have been achieved through the physical therapy route, improving flexibility and strength, pain management with anti-inflammatory medications, and even intra-articular injections of corticosteroids for inflammation. In a few patients, manipulation under anesthesia or arthroscopic surgery might be indicated to release the tightened capsule. It takes several months to recover and rehabilitation exercises strictly pursued so that function and mobility of the shoulder can be regained.
