Fracture Treatment :
Treatment of fractures begins with immobilization of fractured bones using a cast or splint that is made up of plaster of Paris. The cast will be placed for 6-8 weeks. When the fracture is severe, closed reduction is used to correct the fractured bones. Closed reduction is a nonsurgical procedure in which the body is pushed and pulled to align the broken bones. After the closed reduction, a cast or splint is placed. Surgical treatment for fractures is advised based on the damage that is caused to the bones. There are various types of techniques, like internal fixation, arthroplasty, external fixation, and bone grafting. During the process of internal fixation, bones are aligned with rods, screws, plates, wires, and pins. In the process of external fixation, screws are placed inside the fracture and connect it to a bracket or brace outside the body. Arthroplasty will be called joint replacement, in which an artificial joint is replaced for a damaged joint. Bone grafting is used when the bone is damaged badly and then forms a union with the fracture.
