Flu :
FLU in simple terms known as influenza. It stems from highly communicable viruses infecting the respiratory system, which entails the nose, throat, and lungs. Influenza viruses are the cause of the flu. The viruses cause severe illness due to coughing, sneezing or talking when infected. Other frequent symptoms include fever, chills, body aches, fatigue, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose with occasional side effects of headache and gastrointestinal effects. Symptoms of influenza usually begin abruptly and may range from very mild to severe. Complications can be severe, especially in susceptible groups, such as the elderly, young children, or patients with chronic diseases, for example, pneumonia. Diagnosis is largely based on clinical presentation although several rapid tests are available. The treatment for this is symptomatic, main drugs used in management include antiviral medications for alleviation of symptoms, rest, and hydration, even some over the counter pain relievers are acceptable. Annual vaccination should be obtained to prevent the flu, as the flu virus changes yearly.
