Eye Infection :
An eye infection is caused by pathogenic bacteria, viruses or fungi that can infect any portion of the eyes. Some examples of eye infections are pink eye or conjunctivitis with symptoms which occur as redness and watery secretions or keratitis which is the infection of the cornea and this most commonly involves contact lens users. An eye infection can be caused through touching the eye by infected hands, contaminated hands or an infected contact lens. It can also be due to contact of the eye surface with polluted chemicals and smoke of the ambient atmosphere.Depending upon the infection type, the symptoms range from redness, swelling, pain, itching, discharge, tearing, blurriness of vision, and some infections are sensitive to light too. In most of the cases, as eye infection is caused by bacterial infection antibiotic eye ointments or drops may be prescribed and whereas cases of viral infection shall heal up on own. Patient may be advised frequent washings of hands before coming in contact with eyes. The infection must be treated early enough so that it does not permanently affect the eye, which might impair one's vision.
