Diabetic Nephropathy :
Nephropathy refers to a deterioration in the functioning of the kidneys. The disease develops in patients who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. This progressive disease has five stages, with the final stage being kidney failure. However, taking the right steps can slow down the progression of this disease. Nephropathy is diagnosed with urine tests. Healthy samples do not contain a protein called albumin. However, even a small amount of albumin in the urine indicates kidney damage. For this reason, most doctors ask their diabetes patients to get urine and blood tests at least once a year in order to detect the disease early. Doctors typically recommend a combination of a good diet, exercise, and control of blood glucose and pressure levels. Dialysis may also be a part of initial treatment. In the later stages of the disease, a doctor may recommend a kidney transplant.
