Diabetes Insipidus :

Diabetes insipidus is a health problem in which the affected individual urinates much more than normal. This condition is not related to the more common types 1 and 2 diabetes that affect the blood sugar levels in the body. Diabetes insipidus causes an individual to urinate up to 19 litres in a day, whereas a healthy human passes up to three litres of urine at the most. Due to the constant and massive loss of water, an affected individual feels thirsty almost constantly.

Diabetes insipidus can occur due to a kidney problem or a hormone problem. The production of urine by the kidneys is managed by a hormone called ADH, which is released by the brain. Diabetes insipidus occurs when the brain does not release enough of this hormone. The condition can also occur when the kidneys do not correctly respond to this hormone.

Its diagnosis involves a test called the water deprivation test. The treatment usually involves medications and provides relief from the symptoms, but there is no cure for diabetes insipidus.
