Diabetes in Children :
Children are affected majorly by type-1 diabetes, which is a chronic autoimmune disease that prevents insulin production from the pancreas. Children with type-1 diabetes or juvenile diabetes experience symptoms like excessive thirst, excessive hunger, unexplained weight loss, blurred vision, poor healing, fatigue, urinary tract infections, and frequent urination that includes frequent full diapers in infants and bed-wetting in children. The cause of diabetes in children is unknown, but it is mostly caused by the autoimmune disorder. Children with a family history of diabetes, genetic conditions, race and certain viral infections are at higher risk of getting affected with diabetes. It can be diagnosed and managed by an Endocrinologist through blood tests like blood glucose levels, HbA1c, ABG, urinalysis, and basic metabolic panel. Treatment plans include majorly blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, and insulin injections. Early consultation and regular follow up with an Endocrinologist is recommended for the better management of diabetes in children and to avoid complications like nerve damage, cardiovascular diseases, eye damage, kidney damage, osteoporosis and even death.
