Colon Cancer :
Colon cancer or colorectal cancer originates as a polyp in colon's inner lining. cells which usually produce mucosa gets mutated and form a colon polyp which later turns cancerous. If left untreated it spreads to other parts of body through lymphatics. Males and older individuals, inflammatory bowel disease, familial history of colon other cancers have a higher risk for colon cancer. Smoking, alcohol abuse, obesity, red meat consumption, little to no activity are predisposed to this condition. Usually presented with abdominal pain, bloated stomach, blood in stool, anaemia, alternating constipation and diarrhea. CBP, CMP Carcinoembryonic antigen assay[CEA], xray, CT, MRI, PET scan all help in the diagnosis. A cancer staging is done to asses the status of the cancer used for further management which might include either or both of surgical and medical management of the disorder.
